Try Halloween colors for a Halloween craft your littles will love making!

By Kat Fui, publisher of Macaroni Kid Salt Lake City October 18, 2021

My daughter and I recently found a new love of dyeing macaroni to make jewelry. We usually just stick with rainbow colors, but for Halloween we are making a batch of black, orange, purple and green. It's so fun and easy to dye, plus the supplies are cheap! Try it this week, your littles are sure to enjoy!

How to Dye Pasta for Crafts & Jewelry

Supplies

-Large Ziploc bags

-Boxes of pasta: we like ziti and ditalini for jewelry (you'll need 1 box per color you plan to dye)

-Cookie sheet pan

-Wax or parchment paper

-Gel food coloring

-Rubbing alcohol

-String or chenille stems (if you're making jewelry)

Directions

1. Pour 1 box of pasta into a large Ziploc bag.

2. Pour 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol, close bag and shake for 10 seconds. Make sure all pasta is covered in the alcohol.

3. Open bag and squeeze out 1/2-2/3 of the food coloring from tube.

4. Close bag and shake again until pasta is evenly coated in color.

5. Let pasta sit in bag for a few minutes.

6. Place wax or parchment paper on cookie sheet.

7. Pour pasta out on the pan and spread out evenly. Leave it to dry a few hours.

8. Enjoy crafting with your colorful macaroni!

With love,

Kat
