Multicolored Crayons in Fun Shapes Craft

How to use up the broken crayon collection we know you have.

By Kat Fui July 12, 2021

We all have a bag or box of broken crayons lying around somewhere. What better time to use those suckers up? Get your kids to join in on this fun project, where they can turn the old crayons into "new" crayons with fun designs!

What you'll need:

Oven

Bowl of warm water (not too hot to touch with bare hands)

Broken crayons

Nonstick spray

Silicone baking mold(s)

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.

2. Warm up water in microwave until warm to the touch, not hot.

3. Put any crayons that still have paper wrap on them in the water and let sit for a few minutes. This will melt the glue on the paper and allow it come off the crayons easier.

4. Remove papers from crayons.

5. Spray nonstick spray on silicone baking molds of your choice. (My choice was not so good because of the skinnier parts in the design - it made it harder to remove the crayons without breaking them)

6. Break crayons into smallest pieces possible, and put pieces into mold, mixing colors that will compliment each other if mixed. Fill the mold as much as you can.

7. Place mold on cookie sheet and place in oven for 10-15 minutes.

8. If there is a lot of room in the mold once it's melted the first time, you can break more pieces into it and put it back in the oven for a few more minutes.

9. Remove from oven and let sit until completely cooled down.

10. Gently pop crayon out of mold and ENJOY!
