We are lucky to live in Salt Lake City, where there are so many great playgrounds and parks to explore. From swings to slides, to climbing walls and water features, Salt Lake's parks and playgrounds keep my kids active, are a great place to meet old friends (and make new friends), and they're FREE!
I often get asked what our favorite playgrounds are, so I thought I'd share with you my family's picks for our top five playgrounds and parks to visit in east Salt Lake City.
(I'll share another article soon with our favorites in west SLC)
Liberty Park
600 E 900 S
Salt Lake City, UT 84105
What we love about Liberty Park:
This park is our favorite because we never run out of things to do. There are two playgrounds, a splash pad, an outdoor swimming pool, a number of sport courts, ponds, hills, lots of trees and shade, a walking path, a small fairground, a museum, an aviary and more! I like to get my exercise in first by circling the park a couple of times with my little one in the stroller and my 8-year-old on her scooter or in her skates. It's about 1.5 miles around. Then we decide which side of the park we'll head to and enjoy hours of free fun!

Memory Grove Park
300 N Canyon Rd
Salt Lake City, UT 84103
What we love about Memory Grove Park:
Memory Grove Park is beautiful all year round, but definitely one of our favorites in the spring when all the flowers are blooming! This is a dog-friendly park, with an off-leash area towards the north end, where you'll find a few hiking trails as well. We like the short hike along the side of the stream, and will stop pretty often to skip rocks whenever the trees open up. There are a few monuments in the park that honor veterans from Utah who died in various wars. We like to read through some names every time we visit. Last but not least, we like the walking path on the west side of the park that goes up to the State Capitol, which is where we usually park since parking is scarce on the street.

Reservoir Park
1352 University St E
Salt Lake City, UT 84102
What we love about Reservoir Park:
We love this little park, and because it's right up the street from us, we visit often. Usually this is our on-the-way-home playground. There is enough grassy area to run around, and a small playground and swing set, but no restroom. It's perfect for a quick, 20-30 minute play session before heading home for the night, or for sledding down the hill in the winter!

Lindsey Gardens
426 M St
Salt Lake City, UT 84103
What we love about Lindsey Gardens:
At the north end of Lindsey Gardens is a playground with a few benches and a swing set. You get a pretty good view of the sunset from this park, as it's up in the Avenues and overlooks part of the city. It can get a little windy up here, so make sure to bring a jacket! At the south end of Lindsey Gardens is an off-leash dog park. My 2-year-old has an obsession with "pup-pups" and our apartment complex doesn't allow pets, so this is where we come to admire all the cute doggies in our neighborhood.

Wasatch Hollow Park
1631 E 1700 S
Salt Lake City, UT 84105
What we love about Wasatch Hollow Park:
We adore Wasatch Hollow Park. It has a small playground and an open, grassy area where dogs and their owners are usually playing. We also love that it is right by the Wasatch Hollow Preserve, which has a couple of easy trails where the kids can explore. My older kid is really into bugs at the moment, so the trail was very fun for her as she found lots of those red & black, boxelder bugs that seem to infest every trail in the summer! There is also a small creek that runs through the preserve that we always check out.
